Who we are

Technicians, not a booking platform

Sandton Garage Door has been repairing and installing garage doors across Sandton and the surrounding suburbs since 2009. We run our own vehicles, employ our own technicians and carry our own stock of springs, cables, rollers and motor spares.

That structure is the reason most of our jobs close on the first visit, and the reason we can quote a fixed price on site instead of sending an estimate days later. It is also why response times differ honestly by area: everything is dispatched from our Sandton base rather than handed to a subcontractor in each suburb, so Sandton genuinely is faster than Centurion and we say so rather than quoting one number everywhere.

Most of our work comes from people we have worked for before, or from someone they told. That shapes how the business is run more than any marketing does — a replacement sold to someone who needed a spring is a customer you only get once.

How we work

The things we do differently, and why

The door gets tested before any part gets blamed

Every call-out starts the same way: the motor is disconnected and the door is lifted by hand. A balanced door rises with light pressure and stays put at waist height. A door that is heavy, drags or sinks has a mechanical problem, whatever the customer was told over the phone.

That order matters because several faults produce identical symptoms. A door that will not lift looks like a dead motor and is usually a broken spring, and replacing the motor on that door destroys the replacement too.

Springs are specified, not matched to what is on the van

Springs are sized to a door's actual weight, drum size and daily cycle count. A great many of the doors we attend were fitted with whatever spring the last person had available, which leaves the door permanently under-sprung and the motor making up the difference on every cycle.

So the door gets weighed. Where the original specification was wrong, you are told what changed and why — see garage door spring repair for the detail.

Force settings are never used to hide a problem

The quickest way to make a symptom disappear is to turn the opener's force setting up. It works, briefly, and it removes the auto-reverse safety margin that protects anything under the door while leaving the real fault in place.

We fix the resistance, then set the force to the minimum that moves the door reliably, then test the auto-reverse against a real obstruction. That is how every door we work on is handed back — see garage door opener repair.

You get both numbers on a repair-or-replace decision

Where a door is near the end of its life, the quote carries the repair figure and the replacement figure side by side, plus an honest view of how long the repaired door should be expected to last.

Sometimes the answer is that the repair is the better buy and the replacement can wait three years. We would rather write that down than sell the bigger job — the reasoning is set out on the garage door replacement page.

Standards

What we hold ourselves to on every job

Quote before work

No work begins until you have approved a written price on site.

Honest repair-or-replace advice

If a door has another five years in it, we say so. If it does not, we show you why.

Safety tested on every visit

Balance, safety reverse and photo beams checked before we sign off any job, including jobs where none of them was the fault.

12-month workmanship warranty

Backed in writing on every service we offer, alongside the manufacturer warranty on parts.

Coverage

Where our technicians work

Eleven service areas across northern Johannesburg and into Pretoria, from Sandton, Morningside and Rivonia in the core, out through Fourways, Bryanston, Randburg and Rosebank, to Midrand, Bedfordview and Centurion at the edges.

Each of those areas is written up on its own page, because the work genuinely differs: estate suburbs wear springs out on cycle count, older suburbs reach the point where corrosion decides the repair-or-replace question, and commercial premises run roller shutters that fail in an entirely different way. The full geography is on the service areas page.

What our customers say

Motor kept tripping after load shedding. Diagnosed the board, replaced it, tested it, done.

FAQ

Questions about working with us

How long have you been trading?

Since 2009, from a base in Sandton, working across northern Johannesburg and into Pretoria.

Do you use subcontractors?

No. Every job is done by our own technicians in our own vehicles, dispatched from the same Sandton base. That is the reason we quote different response times for different areas rather than one number for everywhere.

Will the person who quotes be the person who does the work?

In almost all cases, yes. On a standard repair the technician diagnoses, quotes and completes the job in the same visit. On installations, the technician who measures is the one who fits.

What warranty do you provide?

A 12-month workmanship warranty in writing on every repair and installation, plus the manufacturer's warranty on any parts fitted — typically 12–24 months on motors and automation.

Do you work on commercial premises as well as homes?

Yes. Roller shutters and heavy sectional doors on business premises are covered, specified for cycle count rather than appearance, with the work scheduled around trading hours.

How do I get a quote?

Call or WhatsApp and describe the fault — a short video helps considerably. For repairs, the quote is given on site after the diagnosis. For installations and replacements, a measuring visit comes first.

Do you answer after hours?

Yes, for genuine emergencies — doors that will not close, doors off their tracks, snapped springs on doors in use, and trapped vehicles. Everything else is cheaper and just as effective at standard rates the next working day.

24/7 call-outs

Need someone tonight rather than a quote?

After-hours call-outs run seven days a week across the whole footprint, including public holidays — emergency garage door service.
