Where to start

Which garage door service do you actually need?

Most people arrive here knowing the symptom rather than the service, so it is worth mapping one to the other. A door that will not lift, or that lifted with a loud bang and then stopped, is garage door spring repair. A door hanging skew in the opening has lost a lift cable. A door that grinds or sticks at the same point every time is usually a track or roller problem.

A motor that runs while the door stays still, or a door that closes and immediately reverses, is garage door opener repair. A manual door you want automated, or a motor at the end of its life, is garage door motor installation. Remotes that have stopped working — or previous owners' remotes that have not — are garage door remote programming.

If you are not sure which of those it is, garage door repair is the right booking: it is a diagnosis first and a repair second, and the technician arrives carrying the parts for all of the above. And if the door is standing open right now, book an emergency garage door service instead.

How the services relate

Why these services overlap, and why that matters

Springs, cables and motors fail as a system

A garage door is not a collection of independent parts. The springs carry the door's weight, the cables transfer that weight to the drums, and the motor only guides a door the springs have already balanced. When one of those goes out of specification, the others absorb the difference.

That is why a snapped cable on a door with original springs is usually a spring problem, and why a motor that has stripped its gear has almost always been lifting a door that was out of balance. Replacing the failed part without correcting the cause simply schedules the same call-out again.

In practice it means spring repair, cable repair and opener repair are frequently quoted together — and that a technician who quotes only the obvious part is not doing the job properly.

Repair, replacement and installation are one decision

Whether to repair a door, replace the door and keep the frame, or start again with a full installation is a single question with three answers, and it is settled by the condition of the panels and the frame rather than by preference.

Sound panels and a square frame mean repair. Rusted-through or impact-twisted panels on a sound frame mean replacement, which reuses the tracks and often the motor. A new opening, or a frame and track system that has to come out, means a full installation.

Whichever it turns out to be, you get both figures on the quote so the comparison is in front of you rather than described to you.

Maintenance is the service that prevents the others

Springs, cables and backup batteries all give visible warning before they fail — a door that feels heavier by hand, a frayed strand at the bottom bracket, a battery that has quietly died. None of it is dramatic enough to prompt a call, and all of it is obvious to someone looking for it.

An annual garage door service exists to find them at that stage, which turns an after-hours emergency call-out into a planned booking at standard rates.

Coverage

Where these services are available

Every service on this page is available across all eleven service areas, from Sandton and Bryanston through to Midrand and Centurion. What changes between areas is not the service but the work: estate suburbs generate spring and motor wear from high cycle counts, older suburbs generate corrosion and replacement decisions, and commercial premises generate roller-shutter work.

Each service also has an area-specific page for the suburbs that request it most — written for that suburb's door stock and fault pattern rather than templated. The full geography is on the service areas page.

FAQ

Questions about our garage door services

Which garage door service do I need if I do not know what is wrong?

Book a garage door repair. It is a diagnosis first and a repair second — the technician tests the door by hand before blaming any part, and arrives carrying springs, cables, rollers and opener spares so most faults are resolved on the same visit.

Do you charge separately for the diagnosis?

A call-out and diagnostic fee applies and is credited against the repair if you approve the quote on the day. The figure is confirmed on the phone before a technician is dispatched.

Can several services be done in one visit?

Yes, and it is usually cheaper that way. Springs and cables in particular are best done together, because both need the spring tension released — doing them separately means paying for that twice.

Do you service commercial premises as well as homes?

Yes. Roller shutters and heavy sectional doors on business premises are covered, with duty-rated components specified for the cycle count and the work scheduled around trading hours.

What warranty applies across these services?

All repairs and installations carry a 12-month workmanship warranty in writing. Parts carry their own manufacturer warranty, typically 12–24 months on motors and automation.

Do you do after-hours work for all of these services?

After-hours call-outs are reserved for genuine emergencies — doors that will not close, doors off their tracks, snapped springs on doors in use, and trapped vehicles. Everything else is cheaper and just as effective booked at standard rates.

How quickly can a service be booked?

Standard bookings across the core Sandton area are usually same or next working day. Areas at the edge of the footprint are grouped into scheduled blocks, which keeps them priced as standard work rather than long-distance call-outs.
